Which Specialist Should I Consult For Headache And Dizziness Post Injury?

Question: My daughter passed out in March and hit her head. She has headaches, dizziness, is unable to excercise and cannot focus or take on what's going on in school. We have seen, a couple general doctors, a concussion specialist, a neurologist and a cardiologist and no one seems to know what is going on. What should my next step be?

I have noted your daughter's symptoms and it is unfortunate that a diagnosis has not been made despite meeting several doctors. At this point, a brain scan, preferably an MRI should be done. This would help in excluding bleeding or any other evidence of head injury.

We have had an MRI that came back normal. Multiple EKG scans all normal also blood work all normal.

Normal MRI of brain is a good news and it excludes any major problem with brain.

Treatment should be as for concussion and symptomatic treatment, such as ibuprofen for headache and betahistine for vertigo. Piracetam and ginkgo biloba are also useful.

Recovery may be slow, and take several months in a few cases.
