Question:
Hello Doctor,

I had been taking Ranitidine 300 mg as advised in the morning. I also take cold milk in the morning and at night. However, I get the burning sensation from below the throat and down after I go to bed. During day time, i feel alright.

Brief Answer:
There are other non-medical things you can do.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

From what I read, you seem to suffer from gastroesophageal reflux. While acid suppression using ranitidine or proton pump inhibitors may help, there are additional things you may consider. First, I suggest you avoid very spicy and smoked foods. Second, you should try to avoid taking meals in the hours before you go to sleep. Third, you should try sleeping with your head elevated 20-30 degrees from horizontal. All of this may help prevent regurgitation of stomach content into your esophagus.

Do you take other types of medicine? Antihypertensive drugs, etc.?

If these things do not help, I would recommend you have a gastroscopy performed.
