Brief Answer:
Not an emergency.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

It appears that your pain can be due to swelling in costal cartilage of rib termed as costochondritis.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the junctions where the ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the sternum. The condition causes localized and constant chest pain that can radiate to back and shoulders but as your age is 51.

I would initially suggest you to for an EKG to rule out possible cardiac involvement.

You may also take Tylenol (otc) and see if pain responds to it or not. Costochondritic pain usually responds to it.

No need to panic but yes physical examination should be done by a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query.
