Question: I am having heaviness in my esophagus. Whenever I burp or eat food it feels like it's striking something in my Esophagus. The striking is not music severe though but it's making me uncomfortable. I am also suffering from acidity from past few days and this esophageal issue starts 2 days back. Pan 40 doest not suit me since it cause itchiness to my whole body after 2 hours of taking it and feels like heat is dissipating from my body. I am trying omeprozole, Gaviscon and ENO. They make me relief the acidity but the esophagus pain is still there. Are they linked and how my esophagus pain and uncomfort can be cured.

Brief Answer:
Needs to be examined by a gastroenterologist as soon as possible.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Such severe pain while swallowing indicates severe inflammation in the esophagus.

Yes, it is linked to acidity.

The acid regurgitates from the stomach, back into the esophagus and since esophagus is lined by a different type of epithelium, it can not tolerate the acidic contents of the stomach and becomes inflamed.

This is the most likely issue in you.

But, there are other complications associated with this, this acid reflux can cause fungal or bacterial infection in the esophagus which makes things worse and needs to be identified promptly by visual inspection of the esophagus and if needed, a culture or biopsy may be done.

So, it is imperative that you consult a gastroenterologist without fail as soon as possible.

You can continue to take Omeprazole.

Please do consult a gastroenterologist and write back to me with his/her opinion.

Further course of action can only be taken after that.

I hope I have been able to answer your query, feel free to write back if you have doubts. Wishing you speedy recovery.
