Question: I am having numbness and tingling in my fingers and hands. The intensity of this varies. Sometimes it goes back and forth between my hands. This happened 3 or 4 weeks ago and I have not experienced it again until now. My vision is good and I can talk fine. Sometimes there is pain with the numbness but that comes and goes. I was not doing anything in particular when then started to happen. I can type this easily.

Hello,

The numbness and pain you are experiencing does not seem to be central nervous system issue like stroke. The symptoms seem to be peripheral issue.

Peripheral neuropathy which affects the nerves, usually seen in diabetic patients can cause similar symptoms.
Also, cervical spondylosis (which is age related wear and tear of cervical/neck spine can compress the nerves and cause similar symptoms.

Thorough neurological examination, blood sugar assessment , nerve conduction studies and X-ray neck are required at this point.
