Why Are Egotistical Reactions Observed Sometimes While Mentioning A Person's Positive Trait?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hello, my name is XXXXX and I just wanted to ask a question about something that's been bothering me. People say it's okay to say good things about yourself but react negatively to it when you do like "he knows he's good looking, he's full of himself" or "he has an ego problem." But if people say it's okay to say good things about yourself than why do they complain about it when people do. They would have to say "I like him because he has an ego problem" but no one ever says that. If people say it's a good thing to say good things about yourself than they would have to react positively to someone who knows they are good looking or has a big ego. Please explain this inconsistency to me.
Brief Answer:
there is a thin line between accepting good things said about us
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, sometimes we say good things because we want people close to us to feel good. Many times these words are justified and sometimes they are not but we still say them.
Especially when comments are significantly unjustified and still a person reacts with ego then it is wrong. Or even with a positive comment if a person instead of just modestly accepting it preens with ego then it is wrong.
That is why we do not say negative things like "I like him because he has an ego problem", but like to say 'I like him because he is good looking'.
You can revert back to me. I find this topic interesting.
