Why Do I Get Middle Ear Infection With Clear And Pus Drainage In The Hottest Part Of Summer?
Probable Diagnosis: Otitis media (Middle ear infection)
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The symptoms you are experiencing is suggestive of possible middle ear infection. Since you notice the symptoms seasonally, the recurrent infection is likely due to underlying allergies. In individuals with allergic rhinitis, the Eustachian tube will not function properly leading to inefficient drainage from the middle ear resulting in infection.
If you notice pain and drainage from the ear, it indicated active infection and require treatment with Amoxicillin+clavulonate (antibiotic).
In order to prevent recurrent infections, the underlying allergies need to be treated. You can take Cetirizine 10 mg at bedtime and steam inhalation if you notice stuffy nose or a runny nose.
You can also use Xylometazoline nasal drops. But try limiting the decongestant drops for less than 7 days at a time only.
You can use saline nasal drops for prolonged periods.
Please be advised to follow up with the ENT specialist for necessary work up.
