Why Do I Get Muscle Spams Very Often In My Legs And Both Of My Ankles?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jan 2025
Question: Hello, I get Charley horses (muscle spams/cramps) very often in my legs and both of my ankles have been swollen from time to time but the left ankle/foot and lower calf have become very swollen, red, warm and painful and I noticed it today after I had a very bad charley horse yesterday morning. I have a photo I can send. I would like to know what it could be and should I seek medical attention or is it something I can take care of at home?

Brief Answer:
Seek medical attention.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I see the picture you attached and the leg is very swollen and red. Taking count of the picture and your description of symptoms I think you should seek medical attention as soon as possible because it can be related to deep vein thrombosis.
I don't think you can take care of it at home.
Taking count that you often had Charley horse and ankle swelling may possibly be related to varicose veins.
You should get evaluated doing blood tests and ultrasound.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thnaks.
