No diabetes or hypertension and do not smoke. Have high cholesterol. Both of my brothers have heart disease. Sisters do not. What could be the cause of the burning in the left carotid?
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It could be because of an underlying heart issue as there is a positive family history of heart disease. High cholesterol after the age of 45 is also a risk factor for coronary artery disease.
So it’s advisable that you should personally consult a cardiologist for proper evaluation as few basic cardiac screenings tests will be required like echocardiogram and TMT test.
I hope this information will guide you properly.
