Why Do I Have Intermittent Pain In The Front And Left Side Of The Neck After Increasing The Dosage Of Metoprolol?
Its likely to be costochondritis, muscular pain
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
This does not seem like a cardiac pain. Cardiac pain will not at all increase on pressing. Pain on pressure suggests musculoskeletal pain likely costochondritis if pain is occurring over ribs or muscular if occurring only over the muscle. So I don't think, there is any need of worry.
Cardiac pain will typically occurs on exertion and relieves with rest and persists for few 5-10 min. There is also a possibility of cervical spine problem, is there any tingling, numbness in arms, stiffness of neck, neck trauma, if yes then suggest the possibility of cervical spondylosis.
You should have anti-inflammatory medicines like Naproxen for five days along with antacids like Tab Pantoprazole before breakfast. It's better to get examined by a local doctor to ascertain.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
Regards
To be clear the occasional pain is just above my collar bone on left side of front of neck (not around the ribs).
The pain feels sort of like a cramp and I can feel my pulse in the same location. Then in a few minutes it is completely gone.
Occurs about 5 or 6 times each day.
One of the rare side effects listed for this pill is dialated arteries in the neck.
Just wanted to be clear for you about the location. No chest pain only in the front of neck right above collar bone.
If no danger, then I will see if it goes away with time .. only been on new prescription for 3 days. Still OK? Thanks
Its a very rare and not commonly seen
Detailed Answer:
Dilated arteries is very rare side effect of Metoprolol. And dilated would cause swelling and prominent pulsations rather than intermittent pain. I don't think, it's related to Metoprolol. Its likely a muscular pain only. I guess there is no history of any noticed or unnoticed trauma. I guess there is no swelling. You also try applying diclofenac gel sos for 3-4 days.
Anyway, examination will be helpful in ascertaining the cause, and ultrasound will be investigation of choice. All the best.
