Why Do I Have Right Shoulder Pain Around The Neck Which Also Pains While Taking Deep Breaths?
Possible causes explained below.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Pain in right shoulder& neck .. specially with deep breathing can be due to -
-Awkward position while sleeping.
-Thoracic pattern of breathing .. ( strong exercise, difficult breathing as in asthma, allergy or bronchitis).. where the neck &shoulder are stressed to cause such pain.
-Disc or vertebral problem at the C5-7 level of cervical spine...on the right side, causing- stress to vertebral &shoulder joint /compression of the nerve that supplies shoulder&neck can cause excessive stress while a deep breath.
-Pleurisy (inflammation of the covering of lung).. on the right side...associated with fever, cough &the pain. can cause such pain.
*Homecare -
-Hot fomentation./Application of muscle relaxant cream/ Over the counter anti-inflammatory pill(Ibuprofen) may help.
* If there is no relief/it's associated with numbness, tingling in limb/if there is fever&cough... medical evaluation is indicated.
Consultation with your family physician is advised - for detailed physical examination, needful investigations and treatment OR referral to concerned expert(chest physician /spinal surgeon).

Investigations for spinal/ lung problem.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you have no sign of any specific disease of organs in vicinity of painful area ( Like lungs/ live or gall bladder-giving nausea, vomiting / Kidney -stones can cause spasmodic pain or dull ache )... you have mostly neuromuscular pain in the area due to stress or over use ( as described previously ) or due to supplying nerve irritation or compression at lower cervical spinal region. The muscles being involved in deep breath & are already irritated due to nerve irritation at spinal level- cause pain on deep breath./ It can be early lung involvement
You should get investigated in this line by MRI or CT scan of cervical spine & also X ray chest region to completely exclude non symptomatic/ early lung pathology( if there is no relief with the home care described above) .
Please consult your family physician first followed by either spinal surgeon or chest physician as advised by the family doctor on actual physical examination & needful investigations.
I hope that helps you. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
History of lumber bulge makes cervical disc problem more possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Disc bulging can follow trauma/ degeneration or age wise wear & tear ( not applicable for you) but possible weakness due to low calcium or vitamin deficiency can predispose the spine to have multiple lesions. / bad postures( while sleeping, sitting or reading ) or occupational hazards( lifting weights, operating computer for long time in an awkward position)
So disc problems in two major parts of spine... which is used often in day today activity...is possible . Presence of disc bulge in lumber region makes pain you have at present possible due to cervical disc problem. Please go for the diagnosis/ exclusion by MRI/ CT scan under your spinal surgeon's guidance.
I feel that answers your query. Any more information you need please do not hesitate to ask.
