As you stated there are a number of different reasons for night sweats and you would need to be thoroughly assessed by your doctor via physical examination and blood tests to find the exact cause
Some of the more common causes are:
(1) It can be related to your diabetes. One of the possible complications of diabetes is damage to the nerves. This is called diabetic neuropathy, excessive sweating is one of the possible symptoms that can occur in diabetic neuropathy.
(2) Thyroid disease- high levels of thyroid hormone can also cause this symptom
(3) Infection- some infections mainly cause increased sweating, usually associated with a fever, at night
(4) Neurological conditions - such as Parkinson's disease, can actually cause it as well. There are also other neurological conditions that can cause symptoms.
(5) Side effect of medication
(6) Rarely can be associated with some types of cancer
To find the cause, you would need to be seen. There are medications that may help, both topical meds that you can apply and oral medications.
Eg of some of the oral meds are propantheline, oxybutynin etc. These unfortunately, also have potential side effects that may or may not occur
