Question: Hello Dr,
I am a first time father for a girl child who is 5 months old, our baby is not feeding properly, she consumes less quantities of mothers milk and she tends to get distracted very frequently during feeding and after that she discontinues to feed, even if she is hungry also she does not consume milk properly, please suggest in this regard.

Brief Answer:
if weight gain is ok don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
What was the birth weight and current weight?
If weight gain is adequate then don't worry.
At 5 months babies tend to empty mothers breast faster.
That could be one reason why your baby is sucking for less duration than before.
Other reason as you mentioned include distraction like light sound etc.
Few tips
1. Try feeding in a dark silent room to reduce distractions.
2. If still not feeding well start weaning foods like rice gruel or cerelac or boiled vegetables.
3. If baby is gaining weight and passing urine atleast six to eight times a day there is no need to worry
Wishing your baby good health.
