Why Do Infants Cry After Feeding?
Question: Hi my 2weeks old cries alot after Feeding.... Ive enough milk as she s gaining weight.. But she feels to always have my breast in her mouth... What might be the reason

But breast feeding is simply more than feeding breast milk. It conveys the mother's touch to the baby and the baby may crave for it. There are certain things that I will suggest:
* Use a single breast for a single session of breast feeding. Alternate your breast in the next feed. Feed the baby every 2 hours or as demanded by the baby. Do not feed for more than 15-20 mins at a time.
* Urinary frequency indicates the adequacy of the feeds. If the child is passing urine more than 6 times over a period of 24 hours, you can assume the breast feeding to be sufficient.
* The child often gets abdominal colics. It happens as the child ingests air while feeding, thus getting abdominal discomfort due to distention. This could be the cause of your baby crying after feeds.
* Make sure to burp the baby after each feed. Hold the child upright on your lap for about 20 mins after each feed. This will help in relieving the abdominal distenstion and would also convey the mother's touch.
* Talk and interact with your baby. Early stimulation is very important for the baby.

Sleep patterns of a baby are different from ours. Do not worry if the child seems not to sleep. She gets small naps in between and that is adequate for her. Nothing needs to be done about it. Being active is in fact a good sign.
