Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
POTS is associated with hypotension that causes a decreased blood supply to the brain when we lie down. To overcome this decreased blood supply, autonomic system gets activated and the heart rate is increased to increase the cardiac output- the blood pumped out by the heart. This causes increased pulse rate, anxiety, dryness of mouth, etc that causes insomnia. An increased pulse rate causes the anxiety and loud thumping heart in the chest that causes the person unable to sleep. Taking mild beta blockers or anti anxiety drugs will help in bringing the sleep.
I hope this answers your query.
