Why Does Zanidip Causes Ankle Swelling?
ZANIDIP-ankle swelling
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
ZANIDIP( Lercanidipine hydrochloride) is a dihydropyridine (DHP) calcium channel blocker and is a common drug for hypertension. Mild ankle swelling is also quite common, particularly with dihydropyridine calcium-channel blockers and is often cosmetic only and occurs due to dilatation of pre-capillary arteriolar sphincter. Degree of ankle swelling may vary with different drugs (alternative as you are asking) of the same class but swelling is supposed to be less with Lercanidipine ,a relatively newer generation drug in this group.
If ankle swelling is troublesome you have to switch over to some other class of anti-hypertensive altogether e.g. angiotensin convertase inhibitors (ACEI) or Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
