Why Does My Tongue Have A Yellowish Hue When I Do Not Have Jaundice But Am Taking Flagyl?

Question: My Tongue has a yellowish hue. As far as I know I am not jaundice. I have am in day 13 of taking Flagyl for parasites. I finish Flagyl tomorrow. Could the yellow hue be due to the antibiotic?

Hello,

Yes, the color or debris coating the tongue is due to Flagyl. Antibiotics do not know to differentiate between good and bad bacteria's in the gut so while on one hand, they kill the bad ones, on the other hand, they destroy the good flora of gut also. This results in depletion of good gut flora.

Start taking a probiotic like Econorm twice daily for a week along with it take a vitamin B complex capsule once daily.

Wash your mouth with Betadine mouthwash thrice daily. You should be fine in a few days.
