Question: I have been experiencing acute diarreaha for over a week. Imodium is not working and I am feeling very weak. What should I do at this point?

Hello,

An acute diarrhea can last for two weeks.
Keep yourself hydrated by drinking fluids and water and if you want can use ORS (oral rehydration solutions).
You can use loperamide and simethicone to ease symptoms.
Use prebiotics to restore intestinal flora (Yovita or Restorflor).
There are not needed any examinations or other drugs at this moment.

Thank you Dr. Xhufka. Is there anything that I can purchase over the counter that would help me? I am not sure what loperamide and simethicone are.

I think loperamide and simethicone are OTC. You can find prebiotics and probiotics OTC for sure. Combination of these drugs will be more effective than Imodium alone.
