Why Is Naturogest Prescribed During Pregnancy?

Am 27 years old and 15 weeks pregnant now, this is my first pregnancy and i have been married 5 months now. I had PCOD and but i used to get my periods within 35-40 days range. My LMP was 19th may 2014. am getting lower abdomen pain frequently from 6thweek of pregnancy till now. Had scan on my 6weeks + 4 days and on 12th week, everything is normal. my doctor suggested naturogest sr 200mg. I want to know, why naturogest 200mg is prescribed; what is the purpose of it?
whether i should take that? because many sites suggested it has side effects includes:dizziness, fatigue, headache, abdominal bloating, musculo-skeletal pain, joint pain, muscle cramps, emotional liability, irritability, cough, gastro-intestinal upset (nausea, vomiting), backpain, upper respiratory tract infections, asthma, breathlessness, baldness, high bloodpressure, blurred vision, jaundice, virilisation of female foetus (unwanted hair on faceetc.), intra-uterine death of the fetus etc. Also want to know, in my previous scans before i get pregnant the impression was normal ovaries with PCOS but now in my last two scans, it is reported as both ovaries normal. whether the cysts are gone completely??
And after 12th week it should not be taken because it can lead to cholestatic jaundice of pregnancy or heptocellular disease. please advice. Thanks in advance
Progesterone supports pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
Its good to know that your pregnancy is going well. Naturogest is synthetic progesterone which maintains the pregnancy. Side effects what you read is correct but virilisation of female fetus and intrauterine death is not common. GI symptoms are seen quite commonly like bloating sensation, gastric irritation etc.
Your doctor might have given this tablet since you were having pain abdomen. Progesterone relaxes the uterus and helps to maintain pregnancy. If you dont have lower abdomen pain, it can be stopped. Otherwise its better to continue.
PCOS once detected doesnot disappear. On pregnancy, usually ovaries become quiescent and multiple follicle might not be seen clearly. Moreover it doesn't have any significance in pregnancy.
Hope I have answered your queries. Feel free to ask any doubt. good day.

Hi,
Thanks for writing..
After 12 weeks placenta takes up the job of producing progesterone, so it not required to provide this tablet. But if you have a cramping in the lower abdomen it can be continued or otherwise stopped..
PCOS causes difficulty in conceiving..It doesnot affect the pregnancy especially after 12 weeks..
Fetal movements can be appreciated by 18 weeks and felt very well by 20 weeks. After 24 weeks you can lie on left lateral side..Lying supine now is not a problem..
Its normal to have yellow urine after taking becozyme C forte which is avitamin supplement. Drink lots of water.
You can have intercourse between 12 -28 weeks if you dont have any lower abdominal pain and by scan your placenta is in the upper segment. After 28 weeks and before 12 weeks sex is not advisable. Avoid ruff sex.

Hi,
Thanks for writing and special thanks for your comments..
A bit more whitish discharge is common in pregnancy. If its associated with itching or foul smell it needs to be treated. Increasing urination at 15 weeks is normal as uterus is ascending up above the pelvis during second trimester which can cause pressure on the bladder. But if you have burning while passing urine or difficulty in passing urine, a urine routine should be done..
Is the cervical length mentioned in the scan more than 2.8 cm? If so then dont worry about the pain, it can be due to relaxation of pelvic ligaments.
Stomach becoming big can be due to gaseous distension.. Alter the food habits and avoid spicy food..
Did you have this back pain and leg pain earlier or it started in pregnancy. If it started in pregnancy, take rest along with calcium 500mg twice daily. Paracetamol can be taken safely for pain. You can apply pain killers over the affected area.. If its present earlier, it can be due to orthopedic problem..
Your food habits might be the cause of bloating and excessive vomiting..
Take small, frequent diet every 2 hrly..
Avoid food which is gas forming like potato and avoid spicy food.
Take food atleast 2 hrs before lying down.
Take food which you feel good till vomiting subsides
Dont force in food..
Drink lots of oral fluids. Drink 2 glass of milk daily..
Take fruits and green leafy vegetables..
Dont stay hungry as it triggers gastric irritation.
Rice soup with a pinch of salt is best for dehydration and tiredness..
Eat healthy and take good rest..
Hope I have answered your queries.. Good day..
