Why Is Sizodon Drops Prescribed For A 3 Year Old Child?
Sizodon use, side effects
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. Sizodon is Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic prescribed for delusional psychosis/schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, tourette's syndrome, depression, and bipolar disorder. In children (age group 5-15 years), it is used for autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
It is recommended above 5 years age.
Side effects include
nausea
anxiety,
dizziness,
low blood pressure,
insomnia,
sedation,
tremors,
increased salivation,
muscle stiffness or pain,
weight gain and breast tenderness and lactation in both men and women.
More serious side effects:
Increase prolactin because they inhibit dopamine. However, risperidone is known to increase prolactin to a greater extent than most other antipsychotics, such as quetiapine.
Tardive dyskinesia (TD), extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), although the risk is generally less than for the older typical antipsychotics.
Diabetes and more serious conditions of glucose metabolism, including ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar coma.
My advise is you should consult "child Psychiatrist". He will evaluate him and advise correct medication for him.
Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
If still in doubt, do let me know.
