Why Is My Low Potassium Causing Me To Experience Severe Fatigue At Times?
In the last 2 weeks, I've been to the ER 2 more times, I've went to Urgent Care and I went to the ENT. My complaints included difficulty swallowing, extreme fatigue, neck redness, stiff neck, loss of appetite and frequent urination.
Tests performed: CT Scan throat, blood tests, chest x-ray, EKG, nose and throat evaluation by ENT. Results were essentially normal except for: Low potassium, dehydration, Candida in the mouth.
Taking potassium seems to help with the fatigue and Benadrryl seems to help with the swallowing.
The swallowing issue remains but it is less frequent and I'm not really taking Benadryl anymore, Difficulty swallowing seems to go away quickly.
Most recently, I've noticed that I have awaken many times at night with swollen or numb hands. Seems like my symptoms always become worse later in the day,
Also symptoms tend to go up and down. Sometimes I feel almost normal.
My main concerns right now are:
1) Why is my Potassium low causing me to experience severe fatigue at times?
2/ Why am I still getting swallowing problems 2 weeks after initial incident?
3) Why am I frequently urinating causing me to become dehydrated?
4) Why are my hands falling asleep at night while I sleep?
Looking forward to your response.
I would explain as follows
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that the episodes of difficulty swallowing are related to an allergic reaction.
The fact that these episodes keep repeating may indicate a possible allergy agent present in your daily activities. For this reason I would recommend performing allergy tests to identify and try to avoid this agent.
Regarding the numbness in your hands, it is related to the low potassium levels.
Low potassium levels could be caused by different causes: low diet intake, urine loss, adrenal gland dysfunction, etc..
For this reason, I recommend performing some tests:
- cortisol and aldosterone plasma levels for adrenal gland dysfunction
- renal function tests.
I would also recommend taking an antimycotic agent ( Nystatin) against candida, which may trigger this clinical situation.
You should discuss with your doctor about the above mentioned tests.
Hope to have been helpful!
I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!
Kind regards,
