Brief Answer:
Kindly mention the dilution of formula milk

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thank you for the details given

But, I need to get the exact dilution of formula feed preparation also(how much powder to how much water), as improper dilution is one of the most common cause of inadequate weight gain in formula fed babies. Also, mention the brand and stage of formula you are using

Thank you
Dr Aslam

Brief Answer:
Need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for giving all the details. Now we can sort this out

He was delivered at term and birthweight was not bad.
Present weight is 7kg, while expected weight for a 10 month baby is around 8.5kg. So weight is around 82% of the expected weight. Anything above 80% is acceptable, and we need not worry much.
You are giving the correct dilution of formula.

Anyhow, we can take care of few things to improve weight:

1. Increase the frequency of night feeds(every 3 hours would be enough)
2. Let baby decide the amount per feed. Give until baby refuses to accept further; don't force feed; rather we can increase the frequency of feeds
3. Avoid giving much plain water, instead give thick rice water or formula milk to quench thirst
4. Avoid giving tea/coffee- these are appetite suppressants
5. Add oil/ghee while preparing baby foods- this increases calorie density and promotes weight gain
6. Ensure minimum 4 semisolid feeds per day apart from formula feeds

With these measures we expect a normal weight gain. Kindly follow these measures and get back with his weight after one month(let us record his present weight tomorrow). Normally we expect around 400g gain per month. If not gaining, we will have to screen him for anemia, for which I will guide you

I hope this will clear your query
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help

Brief Answer:
Give a multivitamin and apple juice

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome back

Appetite stimulants, although available in market, is not recommended and I prefer to avoid them. Instead, you can give him a multivitamin preparation- give Zincovit drops 0.5ml twice daily for 1 month. Follow the diet guide lines as advised before, and let us see his weight gain after 1 month and decide accordingly.

For tight stools, you can give him concentrated apple juice 2 teaspoons 2-3 times daily. If no improvement in 5-7 days, I will give a laxative then. Use only well boiled and cooled water or RO filtered water only.

I hope this answer will help

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome back

If there is only fever with no other symptoms, probably this is a viral fever and will resolve in 3-4 days. If he is otherwise active and feeding, nothing to worry. Give him Paracetamol as needed, maximum 4 times a day. Increase the frequency of feeds, as his appetite may come down for few days now.

As his weight is 7kg, we have to give 1ml of Crocin drops(100mg/ml), and not 0.5ml.

I hope this answer will help
