Why Period Has Become Irregular Over The Past Few Months?

Question: I am a 46 year old female. My period has become irregular over the past few months. I skipped a period in July, had a normal period in August. This month I began light bleeding on cycle day 26 (which is normal for me) but only lasted about half a day then disappeared. This was a day ago and has yet to reappear. Is this caused by change in hormones/
Brief Answer:
irregular menses( inv)
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
With the present array for menstrual events that you have mentioned in symptom chronology, it appears that you are in your premenstrual phase and that the menses have tended to become irregular. Permenopausal symptoms may start from 2 years prior to actual onset of menopause and to confirm the same you may get a hormonal profile ( FSH, LH AND AMH levels) and also an ultrasound pelvis to rule out any other possible organic causes for irregular bleeding if not perimenopause in your case.

Thanks for the timely reply. I had a ct scan in July (for an unrelated issue) only thing found in pelvic region was a small hemoragic cyst which gyno told me was nothing to worry about. The earliest I can get an appointment with my doctor is late December. It is difficult to make an appointment with a gyno in my area the waits are very long. What is the typical age range for perimenopause/menopause? Also is it ok to wait until Dec when I spoke to the nurse at my gyno's office she said to wait for three missed periods in a row for hormone testing.
Brief Answer:
follow up
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The period for perimenopause is 2 years prior to actual onset on menopause, which is cessation of menses for complete 1 year and it varies from women to women, shows a correlation to their biological mother's age at which they had their menopauses.
