Brief Answer:
Laryngopharyngeal reflux or mouth breathing

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting the query.

The common causes of throat irritation could be due to laryngopharyngeal reflux, mouth breathing, reduced intake of water, smoking, and allergy.

1. Laryngopharyngeal reflux is secondary to acid reflux from the stomach into the throat.

2. Mouth breathing due to nasal block is one of the most common causes of throat irritation.

3. Dehydration of oral mucosa due to reduced water intake can cause throat irritation.

4. Other causes include smoking, excess intake of coffee or sweets.

Hope this answers your query. Revert back to me if you have any follow up queries.
