Why Would My Eyes Be Itchy, Painful, Blood Shot And Cause A Sensation Of Grains Irritating Inside Them?

Question: My eyes are scratchy, blood shot, and they feel like they have sand in them. They also hurt. When I rub them to get the sand it doesn't help. I also feel tired but sleep doesn't make my eyes stop hurting. They have been like this off and on for the past year and half. What should I do? I was diagnosed with early menopause six months ago. I am 25. I am on birth control for that. Is this a symtom for diabetes?

Would you suggest going to an eye doctor or primary doctor? Or both?

Actually it was primary ovarian failure not early menopause.

I appreciate your concern

The eyes need to be examined. An ophthalmologist would be the best person to evaluate the issue if your GP can refer you. However, a GP too , can manage this case if the diagnosis is clear. The eye symptoms can be due to medication, allergic response and an infection. Topical treatment with combination eye drops (Tobramycin + dexamethasone) along with eye lubricants such as sustane can be advised in consultation with your doctor.
