Will GMH Injections Increase The Chances Of Conceiving Twins When The Dosage Is High?
Question: Hello Dr, I have PCOD and am 31 years old, trying to conceive now. I had 2 miscarriages previously due to incompetent cervix. Out of last 2 pregnancies, once I conceived naturally and 2nd time I conceived with Clomid which resulted in twins. This time I don't want twins as I had cervix problem, so tried naturally 4-5 months but of no use. Hence, Dr started me on injections this time from day 9 - Recagon 50 IUI 3 days and Tamoxifene 20 mg - 5 days. On day13, one egg developed of size 1cm. Hence dr advised to take 3 more injections of GMH 150 IUI..Now my concern is - this injection of 150 IUI will increase the chances of twins as its dosage is high ? what are the side effects of taking these injections and is it better to take clomid or injections for ovulation induction ? Please advise.
Brief Answer:
Increased chances of multiple pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Ovulation induction with clomiphene or hMG injection always increase the chances of multiple pregnancy.
Spontaneous conception is bit difficult in PCOS, hence ovulation induction is preferred.
Higher dose of injection lead to increased incidence of twins and triplets.
Other side effects are weight gain, abdominal discomfort and rarely ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome.
You should continue treatment as advised by your doctor.
