Question: I WILL BE HAVING SURGERY FOR DISCECTOMY IN 2 WEEKS TIME .pre op tests show a urinary tract infection and I am prescribed antibiotic TRUOXIN.I AM WORRIED THIS WILL LEAVE MY IMMUNE SYSTEM AT A LOW .SHOULD I BE WORRIED

Antibiotics are not immune suppressants so they would not suppress your immune system.

They would treat the infection that is present but would not negatively affect your immunity.

Immune suppressant meds eg steroids and meds used in conditions such as lupus or RA.

In some cases when antibiotics are used, other infections such as vaginal yeast infections can occur because the antibiotics can also affect the population of other organisms.
Eg in terms vaginal yeast infections, antibiotics can change the vaginal flora and this causes the yeast infections
