Would Excessive Alcohol Consumption Cause Severe Sweating And Pimple-like Rashes On The Face?

Question: about 6-7 years ago I suddenly started to sweat easily when working out or even when I get frustrated. It feels like I always have a temperature. My wife even says I'm to hot to sleep next to. And within the last year I started getting a rash on my nose and now cheeks. Like little pimples. As you might guess I don't go to the Doctor often. Can you give me your best estimate of what it might be and do I need to see a specialist?

Is drinking a bottle of wine every night bad for you?

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

If you take alcohol, the symptoms can result from its effect on the liver leading to cirrhosis. You may get yourself examined and investigated by a liver specialist or a gastroenterologist
Another reason for sweating easily and feeling warm is an increased activity of the thyroid gland, a condition called hyperthyroidism. There may be increased irritability, a fast heart rate, mild tremors of the hands and weight loss in addition.

It is safe to have a healthy person to have a glass of wine per day and about 2 bottles of wine per week. If there is liver inflammation, alcohol is better avoided in toto.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Zacharia,

What about the rash on my nose/cheeks? By research I have looked at symptoms of Rosacea and what I have is similar. What type of Doctor should I make an appointment with for treatment of what is going on?

Thank you!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

These may be 'spider nevi' which are dilated capillaries and is a classic telltale sign of cirrhosis. If you could upload a picture, I would be able to confirm for you.

The other possibility is Rosacea itself, a skin specialist (dermatologist) would help you differentiate between the two.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Spider nevi.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

If I magnified them, I could see the dilated capillaries (spider nevi) which are consistent with a liver disorder.

Hope I have answered your query.
