Question: Would getting a flu shot affect a sleep study? My doctor wants to check for RBD. I read that having the flu can decrease REM sleep and increase dream vividness. I'm not sure if the shot would do the same thing. I got the shot today and am supposed to have a sleep study this weekend.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to have any affect.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your query.

Flu can decrease REM sleep and increase deep sleep but the same association is not reported for flu vaccine. On the basis of mechanism, the two are different things. Infection triggers the activation of immune response to fight infection which alters the sleep structure, but the antibodies formation by vaccine is not essentially the same thing.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, I shall be glad to answer them.
