Would Menstruation Cause Occult Blood?
Question: I had blood work and urine sample done while I had a heavy period. The urine result came back showing 2t occult blood with everything else being normal in the urine sample. Would menstruation cause occult blood? Thank you so much!
Brief Answer:
Yes, most likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Menstrual bleeding is a common cause for a 'false positive' urine test that shows occult blood.
If you have no other symptoms from your urinary system (e.g. pain in flank, inguinal regions, suprapubic, etc.), the reason for the occult blood is from your menstrual bleed.
You can test this yourself by doing another urine test some days after your period has stopped.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further.
