Yesterday, My 74 Y.o. Wife Was Diagnosed With Pneumonia By

Question: Yesterday, my 74 y.o. wife was diagnosed with pneumonia by x-ray. She was prescribed Doxyclcline Hyclate 100 mg tabs to be taken 1 tablet twice daily. She was also prescribed amoxicllin 500 mg tablets to be taken 2 tablets every 8 hours. She has been coughing for the past 4 days, a "productive," cough. Sorry to say, we don't know the color as she has never been able to do anything other than swallow the mucus. She was told to take Robitussin cough syrup (she is) and was prescribed an inhaler with albuterol. She is still coughing and I worry that she is not responding but I don't know how long it takes to get symptom free. Are we on the right track or do we need additional interventions? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
She is taking appropriate treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi
She is taking appropriate treatment.
Antibiotics are given for productive cough.
She is taking Cough syrup which controls cough. If there is no Antihistamine I Cough syrup,it should be taken as Tablet.
Inhaler is also used.
So, nothing to worry.
Now a days, the important cause for prolonged cough is Allergic bronchitis.Secondary Bacterial infection might have caused Penumonia.
It will take some time for complete relief.
Ask her to avoid Cool drinks.
Steam inhalation will be helpful.
Ask her to do Breathing exercises.
It will come down gradually.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish her good health and speedy recovery.
Regards
