Yesterday, My 74 Y.o. Wife Was Diagnosed With Pneumonia By

Question: Yesterday, my 74 y.o. wife was diagnosed with pneumonia by x-ray. She was prescribed Doxyclcline Hyclate 100 mg tabs to be taken 1 tablet twice daily. She was also prescribed amoxicllin 500 mg tablets to be taken 2 tablets every 8 hours. She has been coughing for the past 4 days, a "productive," cough. Sorry to say, we don't know the color as she has never been able to do anything other than swallow the mucus. She was told to take Robitussin cough syrup (she is) and was prescribed an inhaler with albuterol. She is still coughing and I worry that she is not responding but I don't know how long it takes to get symptom free. Are we on the right track or do we need additional interventions? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but unfortunately it takes around three days after starting the medications for the symptoms to improve. I would recommend that she continues on her medications and use throat lozenges to help clear the mucus.. It is also important to drink warm herbal drinks 3-5 times daily to help soothe the inflammation. I hope you find this helpful. if you don’t have any other clarifications then please close the discussion

Thank you Dr. Salah XXXXXXX Shoman: Thank you for your answer. It was reassuring.
You recommended XXXXXXX use throat lozenges. She worries she might choke on them during a coughing spell. Is there a particular one you might recommend? What kind of herbal teas? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Anise tea
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, Hello again...
If your wife has concerns regarding throat lozenges then she can use a mixture of honey and lemon juice; teaspoon three to five times daily...
As regarding the herbal drinks, anise tea is most preferred due to its soothing effects...
I hope you'll find this helpful
