A Mild Head Ache With Blocked Ears. The Head Ache

Posted on Sat, 26 Sep 2020
Question: a mild head ache with blocked ears. the head ache comes and goes. There's a slight discomfort in my ears and everytime I yawn or open up my jaw it clears out. I did travel to the Himalayas recently is it possible that it was due to the high altitude? or a possible ear infection? the head ache starts from eyes region through the forehead to the top of the scull. It's very mild though. I just wanted to know if it's a concern or if I should get it checked further. I've laso been trying to improve my sleeping habits by waking up early.

As explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor'

Thanks for posting your query.

I have gone through your query. It looks like a blocked Eustachian tube due to the difference in the altitude. You can try the Valsalva maneuver:

- Pinch your nostrils closed with your fingers. Try to keep your cheeks neutral, or pulled in, rather than puffed out. Next, blow air gently through your nostrils. This generates pressure in the back of the nose, which may help open the Eustachian tube.
- Do this 5 to 10 times for 2 or 3 times a day, the block should get cleared.
- Chew a gum or sucking on hard candy can also help activate this response.

You can take:

Tab. Sinarest 1-0-1 for 3 days
Nasivion nasal drops, 2 drops twice or thrice a day for 3 days
Soliwax ear drops 2 drops twice day for 3 days.
Steam inhalation for 20 minutes twice daily

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further if any.
