Question: can I take more then 80mg nexium? can I take 160mg? is safe? herd very bad, can't eat. XXXXXXX amount I can take ? new medication increases reflux, and 80mg is not enough, can I increase the dosage of nexium when required? I read somewhere you can take 240mg and is safe? will this work and be ok to reduce my acid reflux

Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr. Barani.
For Acid reflux the maximum dose is 40 mg twice a day.
240 mg is taken only for a condition called Zollinger Ellison syndrome.
For control of acid reflux symptoms, in addition to Nexium lifestyle changes also important.
Weight reduction if obese, avoiding alcohol/smoking, avoiding coffee, citrus, chocolates, tomatoes, spicy food.
Eat multiple smaller meals.
Go to bed 2-3 hours after food.
In spite of taking medications and lifestyle changes symptoms still persists, then 24 hours pH monitoring test may be done to see if acid reflux is really present.
Sometimes eosinophilic esophagitis can cause similar symptoms.
