No, symthroid can not cause swelling but if the dose you are taking is not enough, so if hypothyroidism persists, it can cause swelling.
You need to check TSH, if within the normal ranges, it means that you are taking the right dose and swelling is not due to hypothyroidism.
If TSH is high, you need to increase the dose of synthroid and swelling will improve within 1 month.
