Hello
After going through the medical query raised by you I can understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that as per the symptoms explained by you it doesn’t seems to be a cardiac issue however to be on the shoreside I would like to suggest you to get an ECG and echocardiogram done.
Your pain seems like of muscular pain and you can simply take any pain killer and hot fomentation for pain relief.
Kind Regards

Hello doctor,
I don't think either that its a cardiac issue. It feels like some kind of abscess or wound has formed underneath my skin above the upper area of the ribcage. I just checked an anatomical chart and it identifies the area as 'sternal notch' and a bit of the area around it. The pain is not severe or even constant at all so I don't think I need a painkiller. But its more noticeable than when it started a couple of weeks ago. And I feel it only when the muscles around that area are employed which is not very often. I wanted to ask you what kind of a doctor should I visit. Or maybe you can guide me more based on this more detailed information I have given you. I used to smoke on and off (never more than seven cigarettes a week) during the past two years and I fear that it might have damaged some tissues that connect to the lungs maybe. Or I have been an almost constant sufferer of heartburn and I fear that the pain could be due to that to some extent. And my third guess is that I have turned mostly vegan for around two weeks and there is no calcium in my diet. So maybe that is the cause. I just felt I should tell you all this in detail.
Regards!

Hello again
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the detailed info. Possibility of Abscess seems highly unlikely. It’s just slight musculoskeletal pain or muscle soreness. Simply get a chest X-ray (AP view) including cervical spine done and consult a orthopaedic doctor for a proper physical examination.
Hope to have been helpful.
