Question: hcv ab test said .02 does that mean negative or positive for the virus? the test said 0.0 to .08 was in the negative catagory but why is there a number, does that mean my body has produced antibodies because of contact with the virus and I'm positive?
also, i had an hcv rna test that said less than 15 iu/ml not detected but does that mean I still have a small viral load that is undected and Im infected? I just want to know if this means I have hepatitis or not.

im concerned that there are numbers indicated, does this mean i was exposed and have a little of the virus or does this mean i am totally negative?

Brief Answer:
totally negative

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are many tests that cannot detect absolute zero, this means that the lower limit or negative result would often say less than a particular value.

These particular tests are not manufactured to detect absolute nothing but can pick up if significant amounts of a particular virus or bacteria or whatever the case may be, is high or positive

If the test states that less than 15 iu/ml detected, it means that the particular test does not go below this, below this value is negative, the amount insignificant, there is no significant amount of the virus detected
You are negative

The same for the test that stated 0.0 to 0.08, this is a small and insignificant amount, less than even 0.1. This also means that you are negative based on this range since your value was 0.02

Based on these results, you are negative

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
tests designed to pick up above a particular value

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Most tests do not just state negative

They have reference ranges, even with the HIV tests. For persons doing those tests, it is considered negative if less than a particular amount is detected

When the test is manufactured, it is designed to pick up above a certain value, if it picks up above this value, the person is considered positive

It is related to test design

According to the way these particular tests were designed, they can only pick up if a a certain level of the virus is present

You are considered negative

Yes, it means that you do not have the virus, as far as these tests are concerned, less than a particular amount means the virus has not been detected
