Hello Doctor... My Wife Has Started Taking The Doses...she Has
Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
Difference in iron or haemoglobn levels are usually seen after about two to four weeks depending on your underlying condition that's causing low hemoglobin.
At times, goals are not acheived with oral iron due to malabsoption or vitamin c deficiency, then clinician switches to intravenous iron.
It bypasses the gut absorption,is devoid of gastrointestinal side effects and is more effective.
The investigation of choice in early stage of Iron therapy would have been TRC i.e.Total Reticulocyte count.
Reticulocytes are immature red cells released in the blood circulation.
Whenever there is enhanced production of RBCs by the bone marrow stimulation, there would be a definite increase in their count, thus indicating the effectiveness of Iron therapy.
I don't think that if the levels have not increased,it is a matter of great concern.
Just let her follow the treatment protocol religiously and get the profile repeated after a period of time.
Hope that I have answered your query and if you have any doubts, please let me know.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
