Hello, I Had Eye Pain And Pain Behind My Eyes
Question: hello,
I had eye pain and pain behind my eyes and was having a hard time focusing. my doc did an mri which showed a 1.5 cm sphenoethmoidal retention cyst. he said with surgery we can take it out! so he scheduled an ct scan of my sinuses and the ct scan came back clear with no cyst! He said it looks like its gone and my symptoms started to go away. But today again, my eye pain behind my eyes is back. Is it possible for the cyst to just ho away like that? Also, if it was the cyst causing the pain and now its gone, why would I still be in pain. Also, ive checked my eyes and theyre good.

Brief Answer:
It is possible for the retention cyst to shrink.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have read your query.
Retention cyst in sinuses contains mucous or serous fluid that accumulates mainly due to blockage of draining pathways.
So, if the pathway is reopened it is possible for the cyst to shrink.
It may result in headaches due to pressure on the adjacent structures.
If the headaches restarted, is possible that the cyst is forming again.
Kindly discuss with your doctor about these issues.
If it becomes bothersome, surgical removal may be necessary.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
