Question: hello doctor
I did have Nissan fundoplication surgery 3 years ago, and lost a few kilos and I was even slim before the surgery; it seems it took hard on my scalp and lost hair, I did get the weight back on, and its now the same as before the surgery. I feel healthy and eat a healthy diet, and also vitamins supporting healthy hair. I have had tinning hair for 10 years, but it just speeded up a little after the surgery. I Have had a few patches of alopecia areata on my beard, but they seems to grow back everytime. ( not had this anywhere else, just the beard), this was also before the surgery because of stress. But after the surgery; I gradually lost hair on one side of my shin legs(both). Without any symptoms, redness or anything I just notice it accidentally. My family has history of bald scalp, so there is no XXXXXXX in that, but what about the legs ? do I have anything to worry about ? .. otherwise I feel healthy, and dont take any medication, except natural medicine.

Brief Answer:
Regarding hair loss

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have gone through your query and reviewed the images.

You definitely seem to have androgenetic alopecia which is familial and causes thinning, receding hairline and balding on scalp.

Apart from that, just like beard, alopecia areata can affect any site of the body. So, it could be that same process which could have led to hair loss from your shins.

In alopecia areata, hair may not regrow back 30% of the times. You may try using a potent topical steroid lotion or cream e.g Mometasone furoate 0.1% or Clobetasol propionate 0.05% for a few weeks.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regarding alopecia areata

Detailed Answer:
hi.
Alopecia areata is not dangerous by itself. It is more of a cosmetic concern. Minoxidil 5% solution too can be tried. It is one of the treatment modality in localized alopecia areata
Take care.
