Hello, My Question Is How To Treat My Fluid Retention.
my question is how to treat my fluid retention.
i am 42, female. i have a herniated disk and sacro illiac joint dysfunction and i take 100 mg indomethacin a day and 100-200mg tramadol. i also take 30mg duromine (weightloss drug) daily.
i have an issue with fluid retention, for instance today i woke up and two pairs of shoes didnt fit me - only the largest, widest did. my feet and ankles are huge and swollen and under my eyes is puffy. my stomach and abdomen look really bloated and yesterday I had to take my hip measurements for ordering clothes and my hips were 108cm and now they are 112cm.
I have allergic rhinitis and also take two sprays of Dymista nasal spray in the morning and evening.
My feet and ankles ache, and my feet are really hot and im annoyed because i thought duromine would help me lose weight.
the bare foot photo is today. the prher photos are how they usually look.
Do you think my medication is making me like this?
what can be done to stop this happening. amd how can i make it go away?
drug side effect , need definite interventions.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query with attached photo image and here is my advise.
* As per my surgical experience, you are facing issue of long term intake
related side effect of medication most likely responsible for swelling legs
and further issues related to that.
* Indomethacin is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug prescribed for your
sacro iliac joint dysfunction and on long term basis it is known to provoke
alteration in renal clearance system with secondary retention of fluid as
shown up with legs size change.
* Tramadol is very safe and prescribed even in patients with renal failure
also.
* Duromine used for weight loss is usually associated with swelling face and
not legs as common side effect.
Though pills with more urine output as diuretic can be of help at this point, I would not recommend you any such medications directly without consulting your physician as your management requires two step process
1. Considering basic lab tests of kidney function with blood urea, creatinine,
urine protein and others.
2. Concluding the causative agent and required change in the molecule.
3. Drug therapy to clear current swelling legs.
Till the time you approach your doc for the same, here are some useful tips for you to get some relief
- An elevation of legs over 3-4 pillows while resting.
- Avoid prolong sitting in leg dependent position and prolong car drives.
- If the pain of lower back is not bothersome, consider to stop Indomethacin
further doses.
- Watch for regular urine output or any alteration than before.
Wish you best recovery.
