Hello..My Doctor Confirmed I Have IBS Due To Anxiety ..No

Question: hello..My Doctor confirmed I have IBS due to Anxiety..No other health problems..I'm having Tryptomer 10 mg,Complete TD,Librax since 1 year..and my weight increased and most IBS symptoms are almost gone..but some Anxiety is still left and I get worried sometimes..So he gave Serta 50..also he gave Longifene along with Serta 50 to increase appetite a bit more.. My question is..Is Serta 50 a safe medicine?..I'm scared to have it because I read many side effects of Sertaline on the internet..also few months back Doctor gave me Aripiren for anxiety and I got side effects like slurred speech and stiffness and stopped it......So I'm scared I might get side effects from Serta..Is Serta 50 a safe medicine? does it have any bad side effects? my IBS has improved so will Serta badly affect IBS or help it? (because I read Serta can give diarrhea as a side effect)..
Brief Answer:
Sertraline is safe to use, no need to get worried.
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service
Yes Sertraline at 50 mg dose is a safe drug. The drug is considered as safest SSRI anti-depressant so you can go ahead with this.
No need to get worried. The drug will help to reduce your anxiety symptoms.
The drug could cause mild nausea, dizziness, slight restlessness especially during first few weeks of starting drug. But slurred speech or serious side effects are rare and are seen in very high doses. At 50 mg the drug is safe to use and has no serious side effects. You are on Amitriptyline 10 mg which is a TCA drug. Sertraline is a SSRI drug and is even safer than this drug.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Yes, this can cause gastric upset.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
Yes, the drug is known to cause gastric upset and sometimes diarrhea that too in the first couple of weeks of starting the drug. But in most cases, this is self-limited and tolerance develops by own. So there is no need to get worried about this side effect.
This can be minimized by starting with a low dose that is 25 mg and increasing the dose after a week. This will totally prevent gastric side effects.
Thanks
