Brief Answer:
I would like to have some laboratory tests done!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for sending the image.

From the image alone, it is not certain this is herpes. There are many other possibilities to this. To narrow down the list, I will need to know whether you have ever been diagnosed of herpes in the past. This is because it would be extremely unlikely that first herpes episode would present with a single rash only. However, the rash associated with herpes often goes through stages of redness, water filled cavity before getting burst to become an ulcer that heals. if you have had herpes before, then this could be a secondary lesion and a single lesion is not uncommon. Of note, herpetic rash is very tender, should this be the case.

If you have never been diagnosed of herpes before, do some blood work. Serum markers for herpes types 1 and 2: IgM and IgG as well as a PCR evaluation on the specimen from this ulcer (Base of the ulcer).

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well and look forward to more exchanges with you as we try to pinpoint the exact cause of this bump.
