Hi, At Night I’m Quiet Thirsty And Feel Unwell Usally

At night I’m quiet thirsty and feel unwell usally in the morning, I’m tired but can’t sleep as much. Done times I feel woozy.
Both my parents are diabetic and I’m worried I could be too?
I have tested my blood using one of there machines and it’s always about 4 or 5
Do you think there’s a chance I still could be and I should get investigated?
Claire
As you are in high risk group, gpo for baseline tests for diasbetes
Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
As your parents are diabetics, you have a genetic predisposition for diabetes.
Symptoms of diabetes include feeling of fatigue, excess hunger, excess thirst, excess urination and delayed wound healing, some of which you share.
These are the reason, you should always keep an eye on your sugar levels and track your health.
Maintain optimum weight,be physically active, have a lot of fiber, take plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, avoid excess intake of sweets, pastry, carbonated drinks, ready sugars and complex carbs.
Visit a clinician and get the baseline tests of Diabetes.
These include....
Fasting blood sugar
2 HR PP Sugar
Urine Routine analysis
Oral GTT(Oral glucose tolerance test)
Lipid profile
HbA1C test.
Best way to determine the blood sugar levels over a period of time is to go for HbA1c testing.
The HbA1C test(Glycated hemoglobin) estimates the blood sugar levels over a period of last 3 months.
A reading less than 5.7% means that subject is non-diabetic.
Reading between 5.7% to 6.4% is called pre diabetes.
A reading more than 6.5% is suggestive of full blown diabetes.
Your clinician would guide you further.
Hope that I have answered your Query.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
