INCREASED ALT AND ALCOHOL
Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query/reports and here is my opinion.
An increase in ALT is first indicator of liver dysfunction even before the symptoms appear.
These are the enzymes, primarily present in liver and released in the blood stream in response of a infection, inflammation or injury.
Then the increased titre gets detected in blood tests.
You should do some dietary and life style modifications to keep your liver healthy.Start by stopping alcohol and maintaining an ideal body weight( weight loss advocated if over weight)
Take rich fiber diet full of raw veggies and fruits,
keep yourself well hydrated,
avoid fatty and greasy meals,
avoid medications which harm liver,
avoid red meat,
control metabolic risk factors like hypertension and diabetes(if applies),
practice proper hygiene and
cut down on salt .
Repeat your liver function tests every 6 months.
Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts, please let me know.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Thanks for your valuable feedback...
From the last day onwards I quit my drinking habits and started doing some exercises.
regarding the ALT value (296 U/L) , Does it mean that im in a critical situation? or is it reversible?
iam planning to do my liver function test after 2 weeks with a strict diet and exercise, does this period is enough to change the ALT values?
waiting for your valuable feedbacks.
Thanks
INCREASED ALT AND ALCOHOL
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back......
This is a mild elevation of liver enzyme indicating an insult to the liver.
At this stage, omission of alcohol can reverse the process to normal.
Have a disciplined lifestyle, exercise moderately, abstain from alcohol and have fibrous diet.
Probably,2 weeks time is too less to detect any significant change in scenario and that would discourage you too.
Go for LFT at least after 2 to 3 months.
Regards.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
Now I am following the diet with more vegetables and fruits. I have following doubts regarding my diet,
is it ok to add sardine, Salmon, and mackerel to my diet? What else I can add to my diet from Fish category?
Avocado, Orange, Banana, apple are ok?
Cucumber, Tomato, Potato are ok?
Dry fruits like almonds, Dates and wall nuts are ok?
Are there any problems for dairy products to add to my diet?
I'm planning to reduce the intake of rice and to take chapathi's instead...
Waiting for your feedback.
Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....
Welcome back.
Fish is rich in antioxidants omega-3 fatty acids which help in liver repair.
Have plenty of fish.
Red meat should be avoided.
All fruits and vegetables are good as they have plenty of fiber.
This will help in liver build up and maintain enzyme levels in the liver.
Milk and milk products are high in whey protein, which retards liver damage and repairs inflammation.
Refined carbs like white bread, pasta, rice are to be avoided.
Added salt diet, junk food, oily and greasy meals are to be avoided.

INCREASED ALT AND ALCOHOL
Detailed Answer:
Yes ....for sure.
Extra-virgin olive oil is said to reverse the signs of liver disease.
Probably wheat twice a day would suffice as it will provide adequate fiber, give enough carbohydrate and provide required energy for metabolism.
Best regards.
