Brief Answer:
Might be umbilical hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I understand your concern.

When did you notice this- from birth onwards, or only recently? Any pain or discomfort(excessive cry or irritability)? Is it tender to touch? Does it become more prominent, or are you able to feel an impulse there while baby cries?

From the picture, this seems to be an umbilical hernia, which need no intervention unless it become obstructed/strangulated(suggested by acute onset pain/tenderness). Most of theses disappears spontaneously by 1 year of age. Kindly get back with details so that I can guide you better

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Umbilical hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for the details given.

This is an umbilical hernia. Given it's small size, i do not expect strangulation or obstruction to cause significant pain. There might be minor discomfort when we press on it. If it is not painful without touching, and no surrounding redness/warmth or significant tenderness on touching(making him cry), we need not worry. As I mentioned earlier, this will disappear it's own by around 1 year of age.

You need to consult a pediatric surgeon if it causes significant pain, persists beyond 1 year of age, or if it rapidly enlarges.

Hope I have addressed your concerns.
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health

Brief Answer:
Not needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Prophylactic antibiotics are absolutely useless, as the chance of getting infection is extremely low. Even if it gets infected, we can easily treat with antibiotics. Forget about drugs for prevention. The only suggestion I have , is to avoid frequent palpation/manipulation there(we may have a tendency to palpate there to look for pain), as this may predispose to complications.

Stay relaxed.

Hope I have answered your queries .
