Hi Doctor, My Baby 3 Months 20 Days Old, He
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I understand your concern
But this is not something to be worried. Both the issues mentioned are quite common in young infants, and are considered normal & physiological- I will explain.
1. Babies passes loose or semisolid stools frequently, especially after each feeds. This is due to normal gastro-colic reflex(activation of large bowel contractions when feeds arrives stomach). Gradually, the frequency will come down with time, and consistency will improve. We need to evaluate or intervene only if the baby develops fever, stools are blood stained, baby is very lethargic, or refusing to feed. If he is otherwise active, playful, feeding well and gaining weight as expected, no need to worry
2. Now regarding vomiting/spitting after feeds. This is called physiological regurgitation, and is due to immaturity of lower esophageal sphincter(that keeps food down the stomach). It will take 6-8 months for this sphincter to be fully mature, and the frequency will decrease gradually. Giving feeds in a sitting position and burping after each feeds might offer some help.
In short, if the baby is otherwise fine, growing well, there is nothing to worry. Stay relaxed.
Hope I have answered your query
