Hi, I've Been Taking Flucloxacillin For The Past Week And

Question: hi, I've been taking flucloxacillin for the past week and I've noticed that my urine is darker than usual, a brown colour as if I'm really dehydrated. I also have had one kidney since birth if this has any relevance. I read online that if you have dark urine with this drug then see a doctor. I just want to know if this is a normal side effect of this? thank you
Brief Answer:
You need to stop the medication
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
The brown urine while on flucloxacilline may be a sign of liver damage or kidney damage or blood haemolysis.
I think you should stop taking this medication and also do an urine analysis and biochemical blood count.
It will get better if you stop medication.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi again, thanks for your help. I just remembered that I drank an energy drink last night, and I read that caffeine can also make urine dark. Most of the time being on the tablets my urine has been a luminous yellow colour. Is this the possible cause?
Brief Answer:
Don't drink more of that energy drink.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear, caffeine doesn't give brown colour urine .
May be a reaction happened between the energy drink and fluxocacilline.
Don't take more of that energy drink and keep yourself under observations for urine colour.
If it continues to be brown stop taking fluxocacilline.
Best regards.
