Brief Answer:
pityriasis XXXXXXX is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern

Perhaps he has pityriasis XXXXXXX which are faintly white, dry looking, ill defined patches, most commonly on the cheeks of a child. The cause is underlying dryness of skin. Avoid soap on face. Rather use a gentle cleanser like cetaphil gentle cleansing lotion for face wash. I suggest you to use a moisturizer regularly. In addition you may use a mild topical steroid cream e.g desonide cream, twice daily for the white spots, It is a prescription drug. Take care

Hope i have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
