Hi, I Dont Clasify Myself As An Asthmatic Person And
i dont clasify myself as an asthmatic person and i dont take any medications for asthma, but i do recall that i have experienced asthma like attacks in my life, but just a few. recently ive been having those asthma like attacks more often, started last week when i went to the farm and realised that i was using a feather duvet which i think im allergic to, so i suddently had difficulty breathing and wheezing. and now since then i also noticed that when i laugh i get wheezing again. i did use ventolin to help me this week. should i see a doctor? is this asthma? or is it an allergic reaction? should i take antihistmaine daily? please advice. thank you
Yes, this is asthma and you should definitely consult a pulmonologist.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask A Doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the history you have given.
Yes, the possibility of asthma is more likely in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist in person and get done clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest x-ray, and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will not only diagnose asthma but also tell you about the severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You will need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS).
I don't think it is a simple allergic reaction.
But you can take fexofenadine (antihistamine) daily.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks
